Change at Every Level.
51& exists to change women's healthcare, from the individual experience to the systems, assumptions, and incentives shaping it. We use our collective knowledge, actions, experiences, influence, and dollars to change what women know, how we navigate healthcare, how the system works, and what women should be able to expect from it.
51& changes women's healthcare at every level: from your own experience to the systems and incentives shaping it. Our collective knowledge, voices, and dollars change what women know, how we navigate care, and what we can expect from it.
What that looks like.
Change what we know.
Fund research, surface missing data, educate women, and turn lived experience into knowledge that can expose where healthcare is failing women.
Change what we do.
Give women the knowledge and tools to approach their own healthcare differently: what they ask, expect, choose, spend, share, and act on.
Change how healthcare works.
Use collective dollars, experiences, voices, purchasing power, research, and relationships to influence policy, payment, access, standards, and institutional decisions.
Change what we expect.
Challenge the assumptions about women's bodies, pain, aging, reproductive health, and value that have allowed inequity to become normalized in the first place.
Reimbursement: Our First System-Level Focus.
And not enough women have been a part of this conversation. Reimbursement determines what care gets covered, what doctors can offer, how much time they can spend with patients, what gets researched, and what becomes economically viable to provide.
And not enough women have been part of it. Reimbursement decides what's covered, what your doctor can offer, how long your visit lasts, and what gets researched at all.
Change the incentives, and you can change what happens everywhere, from the exam room to the healthcare industry itself.
Changing How Healthcare Values Women.
Two summits. Five priorities. A roadmap.
The first summit
67 women's-health leaders gathered in NYC and identified nine concrete ways the payment system fails women.
It reached the White House
The findings reached the White House and informed the fertility executive order, with active conversations underway across multiple government agencies.
The second summit
50+ leaders returned and narrowed 31 ideas down to 5 priorities for fixing women's-health reimbursement.
Writing the Reimbursement Roadmap
Working groups are advancing each of the five priorities toward a published plan.
The roadmap, published
The Women's-Health Reimbursement Roadmap goes public, the foundation the field has never had.
What We Put Behind Change.
At least 51% of every membership is reinvested into women's health. Here is what 700+ members made possible this year, grouped by the change it drives.
Figures are approximate and reflect directional investment to date. Summit costs supported in part by sponsor partners. Future impact dollars go to women's-health research, policy and advocacy, and public education.
This Is What Collective Power Looks Like.
One woman knowing what to ask can change an appointment. Thousands knowing what to ask can change a pattern. Research can expose why that pattern exists. Collective influence and investment can change the structures behind it. And over time, what women expect from healthcare changes too. That's how systems change, and as a 51& member, you're already part of it.
